Operation Outsourcing

The client:

An engineering company group in Hong Kong, focus on civil engineering service locally.

Case background:

The client has multi companies for different engineering services and remote offices in different construction sites. They need IT operation outsourcing service to support both main and remote offices. In addition, they would like to review the existing IT environment which was setup years before and look for enhancement if necessary.

Our service:

Besides provide regular IT operation support to their users, we also review of existing system and network infrastructure and helped the client to deploy projects below to enhance secure and reliable working environment.

Email server migration – Due to the existing webmail service no longer support client’s OS and considered the security and reliability, we had helped the client to migrate from 3rd party webmail service to Microsoft 365 cloud email service. M365 with a guaranteed 99.9% uptime and users can access emails from anywhere with security control and anti-malware and anti-spam filtering protection.

Fileserver backup on Azure – The client had deployed NAS in different offices for users’ file storage but without any backup. On-premise backup on NAS is deployed for fast recovery. Considered data centralization and the risk of single point of failure, we also helped the client to deploy isolate backup to Azure. By backup and archiving to Azure, not only offload the on-premise backup loading but also comply with long-term retention period with lower operation cost and higher security and reliability.

Azure Virtual Desktop – the client would like to enable multi-users and remote access the accounting system due to system license issue and COVID-19 pandemic. Azure virtual desktop deployed for the accounting system. With Azure virtual desktop, users can access the system from anywhere with any devices. In addition, the client can have centralized management for data but not divided into different users’ workstation. Also, Azure virtual desktop provides system accountability by users’ logging in with Azure Virtual Desktop accounts.

Project challenges:

The client does not have in-house IT support team to maintain the network and system environment and we have to support all users in both main and remote offices. The operations need to be user-friendly and cost optimization is client’s key consideration. Hybrid mode of deployment for both backup and working environment not only enhance the reliability and flexibility but also optimize the business operation with minimal spending.
